This course prepare foundation students for academic English such as writing essays, ASAP references, presentation, reading skills and many other things. All foundation students need to achieve higher level of English and get ready for degree programs.

Essay Writting

         

Writing essays is one of the most important part of academic English which is necessary for all students who wants to study in international areas, especially for higher education students. For this assignment the lecturer gave us three different topics and we had to write an essay between 600 to 800 words in five paragraphs in A4 paper and including ASAP references and a cover.  Before this assignment our lecturer taught us everything about writing an essay and all rules such as pre writing techniques which is very important and useful to help students to organize their essay to make writing an English essay easy. All students who study in higher education level, have many assignments such as reports and researches which require academic English and they should put ASAP references at end of the assignment and this is one of the basic but important things that I have learnt. At the end outcomes of this assignment was learning about steps and elements of writing an essay such as introduction, supporting paragraphs, conclusion, topic sentence, transitional words and many other things.

Oral Presentation

Presentation is one of the most important parts of academic English which we may experience it before to in our daily life or schools and colleges, but presentation in correct way require many things such as communication skills, true pronunciation and many others. In this assignment our lecturer asked us to research about a famous artist and do a presentation about its biography in groups which contains around five persons in every group and record it, and also in the assignment brief said that each person should speak more than 4 minutes. So we divided subjects and each of us record it by ourselves and after that combined them together, then we have posted the video on YouTube, so the lecture can assess our presentation. Actually, outcomes of this project was experiencing another academic presentation and understanding weaknesses of our speaking skills and improving them and get ready for degree programs.
